British Britannia coins were introduced by the Royal Mint of England in 1987 with the debut of the Gold Britannia. Like many other collections, the gold bullion coin offers a variety of different weights for investors and went on to be the only option in the series through its first decade in production. In 1997, a silver coin was issued with 1 oz silver as the primary option available. It was another two decades before the Platinum Britannia was introduced in 2018 with these 1 oz platinum coins and 1/10 oz platinum coins available.
All of the 1 oz British Platinum Britannia Coins are available to purchase here come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are packaged individually inside plastic flips. Multiples are available in mint packaging that includes tubes for multiples of 5 to 10 coins and boxes for multiples of 100. Boxes will contain a total of 10 individual 10-coin tubes.
On the obverse side of the 2021 British Platinum Britannia Coin is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. In this design, Her Majesty is featured in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. This impressive piece of the official Crown Jewels has 1,333 diamonds in its setting that weigh more than 300 karats. The background field of the coin boasts a guilloche design element.
The reverse face of 2021 1 oz British Platinum Britannia Coins features the powerful effigy of the national female personification. Britannia first appeared on coins issued in Britain during the era of Roman control when Emperor Hadrian issued Roman Empire coins with an effigy of Britannia. Her figure as found here was created in 1987 by Philip Nathan for the debut of the series.
