Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coins are among the best-selling coins in the world. During the Great Recession and economic recovery that followed, the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf was one of the many forms of silver investors turned to as a store of wealth. As the American Silver Eagle was setting sales records, the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf was right behind selling millions of units itself.
The Canadian Silver Maple Leaf was introduced in 1988 by the Royal Canadian Mint. It was released alongside the Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf and became the first-ever .9999 pure silver coin available to investors.
The obverse side of 2021 1 oz Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coins features a bust of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy shown here is the fourth-generation design for Canadian coins and was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt. The design shows the Queen in right-profile relief and lacks a crown, a first for Elizabeth IIs portraits on Canadian coins during her reign.
On the reverse face of the 2021 Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coins, you will find the sugar maple leaf design. This image is based on the original design created for the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf in 1979. That maple leaf was designed by Walter Ott and has been used on all versions of the coin to debut after the Gold Maple Leaf.
