Pre-33 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle Coin (AU) (Random Year)
The $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle enjoyed circulation from 1839 to 1907. Because its mintage period occurred prior to 1933, the Liberty Half Eagle possesses a significantly higher gold content than most circulating pieces of currency. Equally as impressive as its compositional value is its mintage history. The Liberty Half Eagle was the only coin ever produced by all seven US mints simultaneously, making it a popular favorite among collectors due to its varying mintmarks. Every coin included in this exclusive collection is guaranteed to ship in AU (Almost Uncirculated) condition.

The Liberty Gold Half Eagle would be the series’ third design revision. Its front artwork was created by Christian Gobrecht, who chose to present a neoclassic interpretation of previous Lady Liberty images. Gobrecht’s design depicts Liberty in profile, wearing an inscribed tiara in her elaborately arranged hair. Both her features and coiffure were modeled after early Greco-Roman portrayals of women and goddesses. His artwork includes the coin mintage year as well as a ring of thirteen stars along the outer edge of the coin.
As with other $5 Half Eagles, the Liberty Half Eagle features a bald eagle, balancing an olive branch with a set of arrows in its talons. However, unlike its predecessors, the eagle seen on the Liberty Half Eagle has been rendered in clearer detail. Elements, such as the intricate texture of its feet and feathers, provide viewers with a more realistic portrayal of the national bird. Other changes worth noting are the inclusion of a scroll above the eagle’s head and the spelling of the coin’s denomination.
